- It is possible that, if you are driving under the best conditions, the engine oil life system may not indicate that vehicle service is necessary for over a year. However, the engine oil and filter must be changed at least once a year and at this time the system must be reset. ENGINE OIL & FILTER – INSPECT – [Check the engine oil level and oil life percentage. Replace the oil and filter, if needed.] SPARK PLUG WIRES – INSPECT AUTOMATIC TRANSAXLE FILTER – REPLACE – [Replace the filter if serviceable, if vehicle is driven under normal conditions.] AUTOMATIC TRANSAXLE FLUID – REPLACE – [Replace the fluid if vehicle is driven under normal conditions.] SPARK PLUGS – REPLACE TRANSFER CASE FLUID – REPLACE – [Replace the fluid if vehicle is driven under normal conditions. Do not directly power wash the transfer case output seals. High pressure water can overcome the seals and contaminate the transfer case fluid. Contaminated fluid will decrease the life of the transfer case and should be replaced.] OIL LIFE MONITOR – RESET – [Reset the system at every oil and filter change. If the system is ever reset accidentally, the oil must be changed at 3000 miles since the last oil change. To reset the Engine Oil Life System: 1. Turn the ignition to ON/RUN, with the engine off. 2. Press the DIC MENU button to display the Vehicle Information menu. 3. Press either the up or down arrows to view REMAINING OIL LIFE. 4. Press the SET/CLR button until 100% is displayed. 5. Turn the key to LOCK/OFF. Or: 1. Turn the ignition to ON/RUN with the engine off. 2. Fully press and release the accelerator pedal three times within five seconds. The system is reset when the CHANGE ENGINE OIL SOON message goes off. If the CHANGE ENGINE OIL SOON message comes back on when the vehicle is started, the engine oil life system has not been reset. Repeat the procedure.] TIRES – ROTATE – [Tires should be rotated every 7,500 miles. Check tire pressure, damage and tread depth.]
